FUNDRAISING
Are donations a tax write-off?
Yes, Sweat Equity is a 501c3 so all donations are tax deductible. Donors will receive an automatic email thank you letter for their tax records as soon as they donate.
What happens if I don’t hit my fundraising minimum?
We will work with you to help you get as close as possible and adjust your athlete benefits to align with your fundraising. Our primary concern is not holding your feet to the fire but to ensure we cover the costs of running the team while still giving the majority of the funds to our beneficiaries.
What if I don’t know how much I can raise?
Choose a level you feel comfortable with and we’ll give you the benefits of the higher minimums as you hit those benchmarks.
EVENTS
What’s so special about Sweat Equity’s team events?
Depending on the event, we bring out the team car to support cyclists along the ride, have a tent at the finish line, have volunteers from our nonprofits out on the course to cheer you on, or all of the above.
Do I have to do a Sweat Equity event?
No, you can do any event, anywhere in the world. If you don’t have a preference, we recommend you do participate in one of Sweat Equity’s events so you get the full experience of being on the team.
What if I don’t know what event I want to do yet?
Just choose “Your Choice” when you register and then let Sweat Equity know when you decide what you’re going to do.
Can I do more than one event?
Yes, you can do as many as you want but Sweat Equity will only cover the cost of one event per season.
BENEFICIARIES
How do you select your beneficiaries?
Each fall, local nonprofits that serve underprivileged youth are invited to submit grant applications to the Sweat Equity Board of Directors. After a review and interview process the Board selects a limited number of these nonprofits to support for the following season.
Can I raise funds for a nonprofit that is not on the list of beneficiaries?
Not this year but once you’ve been on the team for a season, you will be invited to suggest nonprofits for the next season. If the nonprofit serves local, underprivileged youth, we’ll invite them to participate in our grant application process in the fall.
What percentage of the funds raised go to the beneficiaries?
75% of all funds raised by the athletes flow through to their selected beneficiary. The remaining 25% cover the costs of running the team including event registrations, team clothing and misc expenses such as insurance and office supplies.
TRAINING & SUPPORT
Will Sweat Equity train me for my event?
Yes and no. We’ve found that most of our athletes already have their own training rhythm and most have jobs, families and very little free time. Therefore, we facilitate training by offering training plans and discounted personal training as well as hosting clinics and social activities where you can workout with and get to know your fellow teammates. We also utilize training activities that our sponsors and fellow organizations host including weekly runs from Runners Roost and complimentary memberships into Rocky Mountain Tri Club.
